Mayfield Student Jaskiran takes 3rd Place in the 2017-18 “Speak Out” Challenge! Redbridge Regional Final

On Thursday 22nd March 2018, Mayfield School attended the 2017-18 “Speak Out” Challenge! Redbridge Regional Final.

“Speak Out” Challenge! is a programme run by Speakers Trust and funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation. The programme helps students to develop the skills, confidence and desire to speak in public.

Chibalonza, 10M2 and Jaskiran, 10M3 both represented Mayfield School and did exceptionally well.

Chibalonza performed his speech entitled ‘Too Aff’ about his pride in his African heritage. Chibalonza had several members of the audience crying with laughter, and spoke creditably, overcoming a brief moment of blankness to finish strongly.

Jaskiran performed her speech entitled ‘Absence’ about the way the potential of women and girls in the world is not being fully realised. Jaskiran held her audience’s attention throughout and spoke with real passion.

There were over twenty contestants in the final from schools across the borough and the competition was of an impressively high standard.

In the end Jaskiran took third place overall which is a fantastic achievement. Well done Jaskiran!
