This was a great initiative by the students’.
25th AprMayfield's Swimming SuccessSwimming lessons have been a new addition to the PE curriculum at Mayfield. All pupils in Years 7 and 8 are given the opportunity to have swimming lessons in the Mayfield Leisure Centre's pool. Pupils have a maximum of eight swimming lessons, with the final lesson being their assessment. Depending on their ability, pupils try to swim as far as they can using different strokes. Alice and Niharika in Year 7 have been the only two pupils so far to reach the highest level. They managed to swim 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, and demonstrated a range of water skills. Alice also achieved 1600m. Our swimming coach was very impressed with these girls and they should both be proud of what they have achieved. We hope they continue to swim during their free time to keep up the excellent work. Well done girls!
25th AprThink Hard - Art Competition.Last term in the Art department a Think Hard competition was created for Years 7 and 8, and they were to design a comic based on a day in the life of a student at Mayfield School. They could choose whatever subject they wanted for the comic and could use whatever techniques and materials they wished to produce it. There was a great selection of comics entered in the competition, some humorous and some that reflected successfully the experience of being in a new school. The winner of this competition and the £25 Vue voucher was Zah’ra, 7M12. She produced a very funny, colourful and well-illustrated comic staring some familiar faces from the Mayfield community. Well done to Zah’ra and to all the students who entered the competition.
3rd AprAdult English Literacy with Love LiteracyOnce again we had the pleasure of welcoming members of our community to Mayfield School in order to undertake Adult Literacy classes with Mrs Muirhead, Co-Director of Love Literacy. We would like to thank those who attended with such a positive attitude and for embarking on a course that will prove to be incredibly useful. Well done to everyone who received their certificate.
