“Hear Our Voices” with Sita Brahmachari

We were delighted to welcome award-winning author, Sita Brahmachari, to our school on 11th December 2025, courtesy of the Young Muslims Writers Awards.

Her chosen theme was “Hear Our Voices”, and throughout the day she inspired students and staff with the importance of having our voices heard, to share our thoughts and beliefs, and to be the change that the world needs.

This was an excellent occasion for our students to meet a real author, that magical being behind the pages, inflating life into characters and stories, shedding light on to our imagination, and reminding us all that it is entirely up to us to write better versions of ourselves, one chapter at a time.

Sita Brahmachari delivered a Year 8 Assembly, where she took us all on her journey to making her voice heard and becoming a full-time author. She also ran three creative writing workshops with lovely groups of students, and guided them along the ever so wondrous journey to self-discovery, through words. At lunch she kindly spoke to students and staff and signed their books and kindly answered to the questions that a group of Library Ambassadors had prepared for her. All the details, works produced and interview, will be included in this term’s library Newsletter “Mayfield Voice” – coming soon.

Thank you, Sita, for presenting us with one of the most inspiring talks, for positively influencing our students, and for bringing along the celebration of diversity, community and justice through books. Our heartfelt appreciation to the Young Muslim Writers Awards – Muslim Hands for offering our students this truly unique and invaluable experience that will definitely leave an indelible mark in their memories and in their hearts.
