Refugee Week 2025
Posted on: 24/06/2025Refugee Week was celebrated from the 16th - 22nd June 2025, and we were delighted to welcome back an ex-student for a talk in the theme of 'Community as a Superpower'. Alongside Mursal Hakimi, we also heard from Trent Luton, who works for a local immigration advisory charity called RAMFEL, as well as Tom, the coordinator of the charity Roots that works with displaced people and communities in Dunkirk, France. All three speakers offered a different perspective on the challenges that refugees can face, showing how loss, resilience and hope are paramount for people's survival when their circumstances can feel against them.
During the week, we also ran assemblies and the following students, Aysha S., Amina K., Tahsina C., Samiksha N. and Samet K. done a brilliant job of embodying what community as a superpower really means in their excellent assembly presentation.
A big thanks also to Ms Ferreira and her library team, Manasi S. and Isha H. B. for helping Aysha, Amina and Tahsina to raise money and awareness for Roots. Ms Lockett and Mr Londeno, alongside other educators in London, will take these donations to Dunkirk on the weekend of 21st-22nd June.
Refugee Week Fundraiser for Roots
We are really pleased to announce that Mayfield School have raised a fantastic total of £530.09 to send to Roots in Dunkirk for the community work they do for refugees on the French border. We also took a boot load of donations from school. A massive thanks to all staff and students who contributed.
Mayfield School's community thrives, supports and celebrates and this was beautifully exhibited in Refugee Week 2025.
