AV1 Robots

Posted on: 01/04/2021

There are more than 72,000 children in the UK missing out on their childhood due to long-term illness. That means in every sixth classroom, there is an empty desk.

Mayfield School now has two AV1 Robots so two of our students, who are at home with a long-term illness, can feel like they are in the classroom with their teacher and the rest of their peers.

AV1 is a telepresence robot that allows young people with medical needs to take part in school lessons via an app on a tablet. The robot is taken to lessons by pupils/LSA and streams the lesson. All data is encrypted and it does not allow any recording. The pupil can control the robot and ask questions or just listen quietly.

When a pupil cannot attend class in person, AV1 takes their place.

AV1 is the distance learning avatar that makes it possible for children and young adults with long-term illness to take part at school via an App on their phone or tablet.
