Redbridge Drama Centre

Posted on: 19/11/2018

At the beginning of November, a group of Creative Digital Media Production students from Mayfield School had the opportunity to visit the Redbridge Drama Centre.

Supported by Arts Council England, the Redbridge Drama Centre is a centre for creating, performing and watching theatre for all ages. The centre has space for workshops, rehearsals and performances but during the day our students made use of the centre’s multi-camera television studio.

The students were working on their final project for their multi-camera unit and had spent the weeks before the trip preparing scripts, storyboards, title sequences and other items for the production. The morning was spent with staff from the centre who went through the schedule for the day as well as the key aspects of a multi-camera production. The final piece was going to be filmed and mixed live so it was important for the students to listen carefully.

The next part of the morning was spent by the students busily preparing their material for the filming later in the afternoon. The students were working on a magazine style programme including a product test of cosmetics, an item on celebrity gossip, a pre-recorded segment on football skills as well as a feature on the goals of the month. While the students prepared the items they also got to grips with the equipment in the studio and the gallery.

In the afternoon the students recorded their programme live. Before the final recording the students rehearsed their programme. This gave the presenters time to remember their lines and the students in the gallery a chance to get used to using the equipment. The first few run-throughs lacked refinement but as the students got used to their rolls the takes became better and better. In the final live recording was the best one and the students can all be proud of how they worked together as a team.

Thank you to Mr N. Gilani and Miss M. Ahmed for organising the trips.
