Short Story Competition - Refugee Week
Posted on: 18/06/2025Short Story Competition – Refugee Week 2025 (16th – 22nd June)
As part of this year’s Refugee Week, we have promoted a Short Story Competition, open to all students, on the experience of refugees.
Entrants were invited to take inspiration from this year’s theme “Community as a Superpower”, or simply imagine a story of someone fleeing their home/country to escape war or oppression, a journey of resilience and survival towards liberation, independence, and freedom.
The students responded enthusiastically, and all six entries delighted the voting panel with their heart-warming tales of love, loss and hope. Entrants were invited to the Library on Monday, 16th of June, to perform their stories and celebrate one another through the winner(s) announcement.
As a result, we’ve had two winners and one runner-up. Please see below the list of creative writers, and their results. Full stories and further details will be featured in the Library Newsletter “Mayfield Voice, #3, towards the end of Summer term.

Untitled, Saima R., 9M10 - Runner-up
