Sufiya Ahmed - Author visit

Celebrating books and literature with Sufiya Ahmed

We were delighted to welcome the author Sufiya Ahmed to our school, on 14th March, to brighten up our LitFest 2024 at Mayfield School Library! This was an excellent occasion for our students to meet a real author, that magical being behind the pages, inflating life into characters and stories, shedding light on to our imagination, and reminding us all that it is entirely up to us to write better versions of ourselves, one chapter at a time.

Sufiya Ahmed delivered Year 7 and Year 8 Assemblies, where she took us all on her journey to becoming a full-time author. Through her own story, she inspired us all to build resilience and to never give up on our dreams!

At lunch she kindly spoke to students and staff and signed their books. In the afternoon, Sufiya ran a workshop for Year 12 students on “How to Campaign for Girls/Human Rights”, where attendees exercised and presented their right to plead for a cause on women’s equality, either through a letter to an MP, a petition, a press release, etc. It was an excellent opportunity for students to acknowledge and comprehend their own rights and become conscious adults, by using one of the most democratic means: freedom of speech.

This was definitely the climax of our LitFest! Thank you, Sufiya Ahmed, for your inspiring presence; all our copies of your books are currently on loan.

"It was a wonderful experience meeting an amazing author who I relate to, as her inspiration and talent strives her motives, which reminds me of myself. It was my first time ever meeting an author. It was a wholesome and lovely experience, and I look forward to meeting other authors in the future."

Hayrah, 13M2

“I enjoyed the author visit so much and got to learn new things. Her books are truly good and I really loved getting my book signed.”
