Graduate Fashion Week Trip

Posted on: 05/07/2018

Recently our Year 11 Textiles students were given the opportunity to visit Graduate Fashion Week; an annual charity-run event in the UK.

“It was my first time at a fashion show. It was amazing, exactly like on TV.”

Graduate Fashion Week is the largest showcase of fashion degree work in the world, with over 35 UK universities and colleges on show. The work and the graduates represent the future of creative design talent, which will one day be some of our students.

The students were greeted by designers, buyers and merchandisers from George @Asda, John Lewis, Tu and M&S. The employees educated the students about the reality of working in fashion and the different roles in the fashion industry. After receiving goodie bags from all the industry professionals the students ventured off to explore three floors of exhibition space; to which a student stated,

“Im definitely going to make sure my work is good enough to be chosen to make it to Graduate Fashion Week.”

The rest of the day was spent liaising with university tutors and university students, and looking through graduate portfolios and sketchbooks. The day culminated in watching a fashion show with 46 students from De Montfort University, showing their final collections on a catwalk in front of the World's most elite fashion experts and fashion bloggers.
