Oxford Candidate

Posted on: 14/02/2020

On Wednesday 12th February 2020, three Mayfield Sixth Form students spoke to some of our HAPs (High Ability Pupils) in order to shed some light on what helped them achieve their very best in GCSEs and Sixth Form.

Ilyas Dar, an Oxford candidate and Mayfield Sixth Form student, went on to hold a lecture to his Year 12 peers sharing and inspiring students about how he achieved the grades needed to be offered a place at one of the world’s most acknowledge Russell Group Universities.

There was some self-doubt, however, Ilyas decided to own his intellect and put his mind to work by dedicating his personal time to studying, attending seminars and enrol on work placements.

Ilyas went on to explain the importance of completing everything he set out to do and avoiding taking shortcuts, as well as intentionally focusing on his weaknesses and not gravitating towards his stronger subjects.
